How to learn English well

There was no denying that the most students have the same problem as xiaofei, so am I. To be honest, my English is poor, so I am worrying about it all the time. I am afraid of the English examination, and the English mark always make me upset. Thus, faced with the failures, I don’t like English but I have to try my best to learn it well. As was said by professor Wang, we tried our best to remember the words and grammars, to read the article in English textbook aloud every morning, while we also don’t know how to use it. To speak English fluently seems to be quiet hard. What’s more, as a student from Henan province, I was hardly listening to the English because the English listening are not be texted. Thus, the English listening is also troubling me after I went into the college. Honestly speaking, I have been thinking over the question: How to learn English well?

How to learn English well? Professor Wang said that we should know about the learning process at first. He thought that it’s not necessary to remember the English grammar. But I don’t think so. Although we learn English just for communication, not for being a linguist, the grammar is also beneficial. In my opinion, we should know about it, but we shouldn’t pay too much attention. He said that

it is not necessary to find the mistakes, just keep absorbing the correct. I don’t think so, for some mistakes, we should be spoken, or we will never know that we were wrong, and we will make the same mistake once and once again. Except the two opinions, professor Wang gave us many good suggestions and revelations. Professor Wang summed up the basic character of learning to use English in the four: the authentic situations, the need of communication, the contact with English and the communication. The four basics lie in the whole studying process. What’s more, he talked about the English study in six sides as follows:

1. The kids are our language teachers.

As we all know, after we were born, we can speak fluently no more than 2 years. However, we also can’t speak English fluently although we have learned it for 10 years,. Why? Because the kids paid their attention to express their own thought rather than the grammar and something else. Besides, they owned the four basic characters that I have mentioned in the earlier paragraph. They are in a good situation, they listen to the words everyday, as a result, they can’t help to imitate and then they can use the words to make themselves understood.

When they want to have some sweets, they would say the word “sweets”, and after they are satisfied, they will be happy and have

the motivation to speak. They don’t need to cry or shout aloud, and they can get what they want, so why not speak like the others. However, we can make us understood now by Chinese, we don’t have the motivation. Think over the process that the kids learn to speak; we can really find many useful things.

Age shouldn’t be the main problem.

Many study used to get the conclusion that it is the best time for us to learn language from 2 years old to 12 years old. As for the reason, some scientists have tried to find it, but finally they hold different views. Anyway, the fact that kids can learn foreign language better can not be suspected. However, it is a internal factor，on account of we have no way to change it. It doesn’t mean that age makes the most important influence. The adults also have the ability to grasp a foreign language. There are many adults speaking English as the native. They study it as we do. From the point of view, everyone can take it if you want. On the other hand, it doesn’t matter to speak with accent. You only need to express your thoughts clearly.

Several weeks ago, I listened to the interview which Yanzu Wu accepted in American, and you know, he speaks English very well. He said that the real challenge is to extend my own limits. Don’t hesitate, just go for it. However old you are, you can grasp a foreign

language as well.

Mother tongue has taken root in our brain.

We are communicating with others in Chinese everyday, the mother tongue impact our English study. Since English is not our native tongue, we must develop the muscles of our speech organs to produce unfamiliar sounds. Moreover, the difference of cultures should not be ignored. Such as, the chinglish. All of us have made the chinglish. That is, we always make some sentences which are correct according to the grammar but never used by the native speakers. What’s worse, we even don’t know why we make mistakes. Therefore, the authentic situations and communications count a lot. And don’t pay too much attention on the grammar. On the other hand, if we want to study English well, we should try our best to overcome the Chinese effects. However, how should we do? Read and speak English everyday. Only if you keep using English, you may not forget the words. Sure, it is important to use English in the authentic situation. Only that, you can feel the different culture; only that, you can speak English well; only that, you can truly grasp English.

Exploring your potential in study.

How to explore our potential? Change our attitudes to study

English. Of course, if you are long to study English and express your thought in English, you will remember the words and sentences very well. As the kids, they are thirsty to make themselves understood, so they can grasp the language quickly. On the contrary, if you feel it is boring and have to do it, you will get tired and hardly have any progress. Only if you set up a positive attitude and strong motivation and choose a more proper way to study English, you can learn it well.

To be honest, I agree to the idea no more. I remember, when I was in senior 3, my math teacher is very kind, beautiful, and a little humorous, so all of us like to listen to her. But later, she was ill, and had to leave us for half a year. Although the new teacher is well, too, we didn’t have enough interests as before. And then, our math became poorer and poorer. It shows that your attitude is the most important. I will keep a positive attitude and never lose my heart in English study. I am sure I will be succeed

Combine study with practice.

It is an essential principle that we must combine study with practice. That is, the authentic situations and the need of communication are important. We should take chances to speak English, for example, make friends with the person whose mother tongue is English, sing the American songs and watch the

American movies. All in all, speak English as often as possible. All the time, we just learn and use English in class, so we can’t improve our English skill quickly. Professor Wang suggested that we read English novels and get an English pen pal. Read English novels and dramas, not only can we improve our reading skills, but we can broaden our minds and enrich our thinking. I have read many novels, but I refused the English novels, because it is hard for me to understand. I have to look up the words in a dictionary. And I always don’t have enough patience to finish a novel. But I think, when my English become well, I can take it. I would try again and not quit in half way. What’s more, having a pen pal is a good idea. We can communicate with each other in English. One of my classmates whose English is very well ever told me that she has an American pen pal, and it is the person that makes her love English and learn English well. A pen pal can talk you about other county’s culture; give you the chance to use English.

Listen, speak, read, write and text.

Most of the time, we study just for the test, as we learn English just for the college entrance examination, for the EPT. Now, I have passed the college entrance examination, but other texts are on the way one by one. There will be exams and challenges all the time in our life. However, we paid too much attention to the examination.

We didn’t concentrate on the pleasure of learning English. Without doubt, so long as we can do well in the listening, speaking, and writing, we can get a good mark. It is also the reason that I decided to finish the homework in English, even though it may takes me more time and energy, and the article may be not well. However, it is a chance to use English, Just hold it. Professor Wang also suggested continuing to write a novel or novelettes, if I have the time, I would like to have a try. Anyway, it is interesting and it is worth to do. Learn to enjoy the pleasure when you study English. Once you like English, and find it is interesting, you would learn and use English automatically.

As someone ever said, remember to “smell the roses”, to appreciate what’s happening around you not just the end or just the goal, to always keep your mind open about what you see before you get to the destination.

After reading the book, although there is something I disagree, I really got something precious, not only how to learn English well, but also the courage and motivation I should have had. I think I should give myself a change.

Before, I was afraid to speak in class, afraid to write an article in English, because I was afraid to make mistakes. Now, I decided: just use English to speak and write. I would not worry about the

mistakes any more.

Before, I was watching TV or cartoons in which the language is Chinese, while from now on, I would like to try the American movies, cartoons and TV play series. Maybe it is hard to understand as the English novels, but I would like to have a try.

Before, learning English makes me sad and worried, even I can’t help to be asleep when I was reading an English article. but now it is no longer to be a kind of burden, I have learned to enjoy the English study, the English talk and the English culture.

This year, I would like to give myself more challenges. I don’t want to say the destination. Everyone wants to be succeeded. Going aboard? Becoming famous? I used to think what I got to do next, what happened yesterday, but what is happening in front of you, are you enjoying the moment in front of you, which is the most important. So make full use of the moment in front of you! At first, grasp the words and articles in the textbook. The second, I would write a long article in English as Professor Wang suggested. The third, I would read English novels, watch American movies and so on. In the authentic situations, grasp more words, sentences and imitate what they are talking. Then, I would find a pen pal. …Step by step, I am sure I can get progress in English study.

Such as the recent days, I had hold the motivation to learn and

use English, and then I watched several American movies, TV play series,

cartoons

speeches,

,, and the OMG .Then I found that learning English is not as scared as I have imagined, but very interesting and enjoyable. With the interests and motivation, I am sure that I can learn English well. I have to say: I fall in love with English.
