Dogs that can retrieve (取出) cash from ATMs and empty washing machines help disabled people lead more independent lives, but can they also help change disruptive (爱捣乱的) teenagers’ behaviour?

A unique TV experiment, “Dog House”, follows five unruly youngsters as they are taught to become dog trainers. The idea is simple. Kids really like dogs. But can the skills involved in training them - patience, consistency, rewarding good behaviour – give these teenagers the discipline they need in their own lives?

The teens involved were put forward by local schools in West Sussex, who had run out of ideas of how to deal with them.

Liam was typical-14 years old, bad – tempered, aggressive, foul mouthed and about to be permanently excluded from school. Allie, Rob and Ellie, had similar problems – they couldn’t concentrate, they didn’t like being told what to do and they had serious anger problems. Katrina was different. She was so shy that she had developed agoraphobia(陌生环境), she suffered from depression and had taken herself out of mainstream education.

Gradually, working with the dogs began to have an impact on the kids. But, in order to fully appreciate the significance of what they were doing, they needed to meet the disabled people who benefited from having these

dogs. The meetings had a profound impact on the teenagers. After meeting

Eileen Hobson and her dog Sailor, Liam changed his ways and his unlikely friendship with severely disabled wheelchair user Eileen blossomed.

Two months into the course Liam began to connect with the dogs too - particularly a young yellow Labrador called Aero. The relationship flourished so much that the dog often knew instinctively what the

teenager wanted him to do before he'd even asked. \"He just knows,\" says Liam.

Liam’s school noticed a huge change in his whole outlook. His

teacher Nick Brown said “More than anything I see a confident and happy young man. It’s been superb.”

Every Christmas the giant tree in Rockefeller Center sparkles with thousands of lights. From the beginning, when construction workers raised the first one during the depths of the Depression, it has been a symbol of hope. Diana Abad, like most Americans, loved that tree.

In 1999, however, Diana was writing her will. The 33-year-old woman from Staten Island, New York, was diagnosed with leukemia(白血病) and wanted to put her things in order. Doctors told her she had nine months to live.

Her slim chance for survival lay in finding a bone marrow(骨髓) donor.

The most likely source for a match is always among relatives -- but her family was tested and there was none.

Then one day in February 2000, she got a call from the hospital saying

that out of the four million people enrolled in the National Marrow Donor Program Registry, there was only one match. The potential donor was thinking about it. In March the donor agreed, and the transplant procedure was scheduled for March 27.

On that day, a doctor came in with the marrow in a bag, and Diana

remembers him saying: “This is it. If it doesn’t graft within four to six hours, nothing will bring you back.” Diana asked a priest (牧师) to give her last rite(祈祷).

Almost immediately after the two-hour procedure, she felt stronger. Doctors told her it looked like the graft had taken.

Donors are anonymous, but when she was better, Diana sent a note through the Registry: “You don’t know the joy that I am

experiencing,” she wrote. “I hope that one day we can meet and I can thank you in person.”

It was several months before the donor replied. At first he didn’t even give his name. He was 34-year-old David Mason, and he lived in Dedham, Massachusetts. But eventually the two exchanged phone numbers and began to talk.

Then unexpectedly and unannounced, he turned up at her door in

Englishtown, New Jersey, on December 23. She says it was love at first sight. He says he didn’t feel it until they met the second time.

That meeting began a long-distance romance that culminated(修成正

果) under the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center in December 2004. That’s where David proposed(求婚) to Diana. She, of course, said yes. 61.Which of the following may be the title of the passage? A.Perfect Match

A proven method of effective textbook reading is the SQ3R method

developed by Francis Robinson. The first step is to survey (the S step) the chapter by reading the title, introduction, section headings,

summary and by studying any graphs, tables illustrations or charts. The purpose for this step is to get an overview of the chapter so that you will know before you read what it will be about. In the second step (the Q step), for each section you ask yourself questions such as “What do I already know about this topic?” and “What do I want to know?” In

this step you also take the section heading and turn it into a question. This step gives you a purpose for reading the section. The third step

(the first of the 3R’s) is to read to find the answer to your questions. Then at the end of each section, before going on to the next section,

you recite (the second of the 3R’s) the answers to the questions that

you formed in the question step. When you recite you should say the

information you want to learn out loud in your own words. The fifth step

is done after you have completed steps 2,3, and 4 for each section. You review (the last of the 3R's) the entire chapter. The review is done much as the survey was in the first step. As you review, hold a mental conversation with yourself as you recite the information you selected as important to learn. The mental conversation could take the form of asking and answering the questions formed from the headings or reading the summary, which lists the main ideas in the chapter, and trying to fill in the details for each main idea.

66.From the passage we can infer that the SQ3R method . A.turns out to be practicable

B.leaves much to be desired

C.needs to be proven D.cannot be used by every reader

67.The SQ3R method consists of steps. A.three

B.four

C.five

D.seven

68.According to the passage, the first step helps the readers .

A.read the first several paragraphs

B.scan the whole chapter

C.study the graphs

D.get the theme of the chapter

69.Which of the following is the fourth step?

A.To question yourself. B.To read for information. C.To recite your answers. D.To draw a conclusion. 70.Which of the following statements is TRUE?

A.In the last step, you should remember all the information.

B.When you finish the last step, you will get both the main idea and the details.

C.The mental conversation involves answering the questions asked by the author.

D.While you are holding a mental conversation you select the important

information. D

This week, London will be full of celebrations to welcome the Year of the Rat. Every year, London’s Chinatown holds a great event to celebrate Chinese New Year, the largest event outside of Asia.

This year in the UK, there seems to be a huge amount of interest in Chinese culture. For the third year running, the “China in London”

The “China in London” season will incorporate a huge number of events, ranging from art exhibitions to modern dance, film festivals to tea tastings, musical concerts to children’s half-term activities. In addition, another Chinese culture festival, “China Now” is launching at Chinese New Year.

musicians, acrobats, artists and children. There will be a large stage and screen in Trafalgar Square featuring(展现) martial arts, music and

dance. It wouldn’t be Chinese New Year without fireworks and firecrackers, so Leicester Square will see displays on the hour all afternoon. Nearby

第四:书面表达(共两节,满分45分)

第一节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分)

阅读下面的短文,并根据短文后面的要求答题。(请注意问题后的字数要求)

Experts are finding your standard first aid response may be the worst thing you can do in an emergency. Here’s how to update your first aid kit.

CUTS AND SCRAPES

When the skin isn’t broken, it’s hard to beat iodine (碘酒) for

killing bacteria, doctors use it to clean before surgery. But when

there’s a cut, full – strength iodine and rubbing alcohol can be harmful

to skin cells, preventing healing. Putting iodine on cuts and wounds

kills bacteria, but it won’t clean the wound. The most effective way

is washing the wound with water.

BURNS

If you spread some butter on the burn to ease the pain, it isn’t a

good idea. Butter was thought to cool the burn, but it can cause infection and create and environment for bacterial growth. Run the burn under cool

water immediately to help remove the heat and put an end to the damaging process. Wrap the burn with a bandage, and keep it clean and dry. If blisters (水泡) form, don’t break them.

POISONING

When a child swallows anything poisonous, parents probably think

they’re well prepared if ipecac (催吐剂) is on hand. Wrong. Ipecac was thought to be a good way to treat a child who had swallowed a poisonous substance, but not any more because it doesn’t always remove the toxic substance. That may cause dehydration (脱水) and prevent doctors from giving other treatments.

EXCESS BLEEDING

Everyone learns how to stop bleeding with a tourniquet (止血带). But studies show this method causes more harm than good. Tourniquets can

increase the risk of tissue damage or even the loss of a limb. Apply direct pressure to the wound. Simply place a clean cloth on the wound and press firmly; don’t remove the cloth, event if it gets black. If necessary, add more cloths. If that’s not enough, you can further slow the blood flow by applying pressure to the main artery (动脉) of the upper arm or leg.

76.What is the best title of the passage? (Please answer within 10 words.)

77.Which sentence in the passage can be replaced by the following one? However, by studying we know this method does more harm instead of

doing more good. 78.Please fill in the blank with proper words or phrases to complete the sentence.

(Please answer within 5 words.)

79.What should we do in order to give useful first aids? (Please answer

within 30 words.)

Saturday April 4 th windy

Today my classmates and I went on an outing. On the bus a foreigner stepped on the foot of a middle – aged woman because of a sudden stop

As we know, Qingdao is a co – host city of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, which is a great honor to all the citizens. We have beautiful beaches and clean water and blue sky, -everything for the events but the city

still seems to lack something that can add to the honor. It would be a shame if such a thing happened during the Games. We should have good manners in building a harmonious society. I hereby call on all the citizens of Qingdao to show our hospitality, rather than rudeness, to our guests from all over the world. 听力原稿

1.M : Can I still get breakfast in the dining – hall?

W : Yes, sir. If you hurry you can just make it – breakfast is served

until 10:30, and there are twenty minutes left. 2.M : What’s going on over there, Mum?

W : The visitors are watching a performance by animals. M : Let’s go and join them.

3.M : That’s an unusual set of stamps. How long did it take you to collect them?

W : More than five years.

M : I lack the patience. I prefer something challenging, so I chose

to play chess. W : That also needs patience.

4.W : When’s the next train to New York?

M : You’ve just missed the ten o’clock one. There’s a slow one in five minutes, at ten fifteen, or a fast one at ten twenty, which gets to New York at eleven ten.

W : Thank you, I’ll get the fast one.

5.M :Hurry up. It’s time for the English news program.

W : Don’t worry. There is a little time to go. Let’s finish watching Animal World first.

M : All right. But don’t forget it. W : OK.

6.M : I wish to buy an ice pillow and an ice bag.

W : Yes, we have a large assortment of them. Do you prefer all rubber or rubbered cloth?

M : I want one of all rubber. W : Here it is.

M : Please prepare the medicine for me according to this prescription. W : Certainly, sir. How much do you want of the medicine? For two days or four days?

M : Give me for three days, please.

W : Here it is, sir. Do you want anything else? M : Can you sell me cocaine?

W : Yes, if you have got a doctor’s certificate.

7.M :Sue, there you are. Have you got time for a little chat? W : Of course. What is it, Mike? Is something wrong? M : No, not really. But I’d like your advice. W : I’ll help if I can.

M : Well, you remember Miguel who stayed with us last summer? W : No, but I remember you telling me about him. He was very fond of

sightseeing, wasn’t he? M : That’s right. Well, I got a letter from him this morning and he’s

invited me to spend a holiday with his family this year. They have got a big house on a river, and they’ve got a boat. You know how crazy I am about boats.

W : Mike, that’s great. What a wonderful chance for you! M : Yes, but it’s not that simple. W : What’s the problem?

M : It’s Celia. You see we’ve both been saving like mad to go on

a trip together this year.

W : Ah, I see. You don’t want to disappoint her, of course.

M : That’s right. She’d be so upset. She’s been doing all sorts

of jobs in her free time. She deserves this holiday. It seems so unfair.

W : Look, Mike. First, you must tell Celia about the invitation.

She’ll understand your problem. But why don’t you tell Miguel about the plan you had already made with Celia? He might even suggest a good way to settle the problem.

8.W : Hello! This is Barcelona Sandy Hotel.

M : Hello! This is Clements, Hill Clements. I’d like 3 rooms for 4

nights.

W : Yeah. 4 nights. Double Room or Single?

M : Single please. And I will check in on December 19. Could you please

send a car to pick us up at the airport? W : No problem. Flight Number, please?

M : FR 657. Take off is at 12:50. It might take up 5 hours to arrive

at the airport.

W : Yes, sir. Let me check it. 3 rooms 4 nights. From the 19 th on. A car needed. Is that right? M : And Hill Clements. Thanks. M : Have a nice journey. See you!

9.W : How was travel in the 1960’s, different from that of the early 1900’s, Dad?

M : Well, in the 1960’s people rode in cars over wide roads. They flew in planes from Europe to America in a few hours. W : What about the 1900’s?

M : In the early 1900’s planes were very few. To see one was so unusual that the people of a town stopped what they were doing to watch it fly overhead.

W : But today it is quite different, isn’t it?

M : Yes, today you are able to travel to many places in a few hours

because of the development of the plane. You turn on electrical

lights because someone invented ways to make use of electricity. You make history.

W : Is our life also changed by history?

M : That’s right. The history made by people before you were born

changes your life. W : I see. Thank you, Dad.

10.Gloria Latrobe is studying psychology at New York University. She

was once a waitress working at Top Club in New York for a few weeks.

One day, Gordon Williams, and English businessman, came to the club. Gordon happened to be interested in psychology and he talked a lot with Gloria. Finally he gave her a check for $ 10,000 to pay for her last year

of college, which was really a big tip for her. Gloria described Mr. Williams as “a nice English gentleman” and told

the story again and again on television in the U.S. Unfortunately,

Gloria’s bank wouldn’t pay the money because Williams didn’t have $10,000 in the bank and he didn’t even remember giving the tip at all.

But there was a happy ending to the story. Top Club in New York were so

pleased that the club’s name was in every newspaper in Britain and the United States that they gave Gloria Latrobe the $ 10,000 to pay for her last year at New York University.
